Our Photos

I know I'm getting all crazy with the whole engagement thing around these parts, but I promise this is the last engagement related post for a while. I just wanted to share a few of my favorite photos from our recent engagement shoot. To see the rest, click up top where it says 'Photography'.

That bench? In the second photo? That's the bench we were on when he proposed. I can't wait to hang these in our house!

My Baby Brudder

Haha I don't really call him that, but still. He is one of four of my "baby brothers". He graduated from high school on June 1st and I'm just now getting around to posting photos of it all.

I suck.

So! Here are some photos from his big day-

And I kidnapped him and took some more "posed" (so not my thing) photos-

I'm still kicking myself that I didn't remember to tell him to put his class ring on.

Yay, Tyler! Oh and just for kicks- here he is for Kindergarten graduation...

He finally grew into his ears.

Meg's Session

I knew I wanted to photograph this awesome purple chair that my aunt has. And my cousin. So I ran over there and grabbed the chair, and my cousin! And that's how it all started. Here are a few of my favorites-

That was fun. And thanks to Chris for hauling that chair around all evening!

How I Know

Want to know how I know that Chris is the best? Like, he'll do whatever I ask him to when it comes to my photography practice.."Go jump off that ledge." Stand. No kneel. Get on your knees!" But the one I love,  (that actually worked) was this one, "Blow on this flower right when I tell you to and don't M.O.V.E."

Yep. He did. And unfortunately this "practice sesh" didn't actually turn out during the actual shoot. There's always next time!

He's 199.9% supportive. That's how I know he's the best boyfriend ever.

Dipping My Big Toe

I'm doing it. I'm dipping my big toe in, not so much jumping in with both feet. Oh, you don't know what I'm talking about? The photography thing. Duh.

I had too many people telling me I was crazy to not at least try it. So that's what I'm doing. I'm having so much fun.

Here are a few photos I shot of my cousin and her family a couple of weeks ago-

I just decided to go with my first and middle name. I figure if when I do get married, then I won't have to worry about all the name changing and such. I like it.

Coach

C bought me a new lens yesterday. I also had my first "paid" photo shoot yesterday. I'm uploading photos now. I'm crossing my fingers that it wasn't a mistake to use the new lens 2 hours after I bought it.

We'll see.

Before the shoot started, C and I got to the location so I could get my bearings. I caught him mid coaching session...

Notice the left hand. He was really trying to prove a point.

That boy "gets" this whole howthecamera/photographythingworks so much quicker than I do.

So I listen.

And snap pictures.

Happy Easter y'all!

A Bike in the Bluebonnets

My aunt and her hubby wanted me to get some pictures of their motorcycle in the bluebonnets. I don't get the whole motorcycle "thing" but I wasn't going to tell them no. I'll take pictures of anything!

So then, there we were, in a field of bluebonnets, with a camera, a motorcycle and four (C is a great right hand man!) adults.

Here are a few of the favorites-

That was fun.

Photo(s) of the Day

I might will be sad when Spring is over because all of the wildflowers will be gone.
For the record, in Texas, Spring only lasts a few weeks. So? I gotta get these while I can!
Spring in Texas means bluebonnets. And these really did have a purple hue to them. They looked purple up against blue.

So pretty.

Happy Friday!

First Shoot

(If I Can Even Call It That)

My friend Kim wanted me to take some photos of her daughter, K. You might remember baby K from this post. She'll be two in May. I wasn't sure how the "shoot" would go because this is the first time I've ever been expected to "deliver". Although, I'm sure if I told Kim I didn't get any good pictures she would have said, "No problem! We'll just try again!" She's sweet like that.

But I surprised myself. I did get some decent shots.

Here's my favorite. Actually, I can't say that. I have too many favorites.

This was one of the first photos I took because I was getting this, "What do you think you're doing" look quite a bit in the beginning.

Here is her momma's favorite...

Then there are the Facebook favorite(s)

And a couple few more that I just have to share.

And that was that.

Sense

A couple of weekends ago I took a basic SLR photography class from Mckmama. Initially when I e-mailed about it, the only class that would fit into my schedule was full. So I begged and pleaded asked to be placed on a waiting list in case someone dropped out of the class. A few days later, I received an email that said they were going to add another class! And it was in a time that was good for me. Thank goodness.

So, I took pages and pages of notes during the class. And I've been looking over them ever since.

She had the two hour class broken down into three parts. We talked about ISO (I get it!), aperture (now makes so much more sense), and shutter speed (still struggling with this a bit). The thing I liked most about the class was that she gave us little assignments to do for each part and we'd go take a few pictures while adjusting the ISO, aperture, or shutter speed and we'd all come back and talk about what we found. It was kind of like learning from our own mistakes, but with some guidance.
And the best part? She told us how she shoots,  what she keeps her aperture at mostly, and ISO, depending on lighting. Great tips.

Three out of her five kids did make an appearance and I got to say hi to Stellan, because he jumped into her lap while I was asking a question.

She also told me what lens is best to get right off the bat. It turns out to be the same one that everyone else is telling me about so that's going in the wish list.

Now I'm mostly trying to figure out how to put all three things together. I took my camera out this weekend and practiced a bit.

And I just like taking pictures of flowers apparently. So there.
It's finally making sense. And I will totally be taking another class from her once I get a little more practice in.

Totally.
